After the first test with Ducati, Jorge Lorenzo insists that it won’t easily be faster than Andrea Dovizioso, his new Italian teammate. In short, the danger is in the house.
Dovizioso debuted in MotoGP in 2008 with Team Scot, who had only one bike. Then, he ran for eight seasons and in four of these (2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016), he finished with more points than his teammate. Three times, he closed behind (2009, 2010 and 2015) and one between Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa. It was the year in which the HRC Team had three factory bikes.
The danger is in the house: Dovizioso knows very well the Ducati bike
Then, the results are balanced. However, remember that Dovizioso shared the box with Cal Crutchlow, Nicky Hayden and Andrea Iannone, apart from Spanish and Australian. In 2017, Dovizioso will be the new teammate of Jorge Lorenzo and the Spaniard said already that he won’t make the mistake of underestimating a pilot who knows the Ducati for four years.
Lorenzo and Dovizioso know each other a long time. They were rivals when the Majorcan won his two world titles in the 250 (2006 and 2007). Then, they went into MotoGP together. “Andrea is a very rational guy and has a lot of experience. He does not make mistakes. Andrea finishes the races and then makes several points.” said Lorenzo. “He was very quick in Valencia and I think it’s the best time of his career. It will not be easy to be faster than him.”
Yamaha: Mav vs Vale
The Danger is in the house also for Yamaha. Valentino Rossi will have to work hard to be faster than Maverick Vinales, his new teammate. The young Spaniard was faster in Valencia tests and seems to have already found the right feeling with the Japanese bike. Vale and Jorge have much experience. Andrea and Maverick are faster. But the former world champions can still make a difference next year. Marc Marquez has warned.
