Different Rear Tire – The Montmelò’s circuit will host the 2016 Catalunya GP. The Spanish track has fast curves, that whip the tires. For this reason, Michelin studies some compounds specifically made for the appointment of Barcelona. The French manufacturer will give three different rear tire for Moto GP riders. All asymmetric, with a harder compound on the right side designed to work at high temperatures. Pilots can choose between soft, medium, and hard rear tires as much up front.
“The Montmelò track has fast corners, in sequence, a long straight and important area of braking. It will be a good test for our tires.” says Piero Taramasso, manager of Michelin, to gpone.com. “The grip can also be compromised when temperatures rise and it is something that should be considered. Also, there are some areas with many holes that undermines the setup of the motorcycles. At Mugello, we obtained good results and with this in mind the tire choice will be very similar to the one carried in Italy. We’ll have some different compounds, which are best suited to this circuit.” In Montmelò, the Moto GP’s riders can choose some different rear tire. The yield of the tires will be crucial to the result.
Different Rear Tire: Michelin continues to evolve
“The tires are constantly evolving and the designers are developing compounds as the year progresses to work at the different circuits Michelin visits.” said to Tim Wapole during an interview with Motorlands. “It is an ever-growing program and one that Michelin will keep striving to make better performing tires for. Each event presents its own demands and the Michelin technicians must face these and come up with the best solutions. It is certainly not the case of being satisfied with what has been developed and sitting back. They will continue to improve to make the best tires possible for all tracks and conditions.”
