Daijiro Kato – Today, 4 July, Daijiro Kato would have celebrated his 40th birthday. Instead, the Japanese died in Suzuka, his favorite circuit, after 14 days in a state of coma. In 2001 Daijiro Kato won the title in the 250 cc class. He annihilates his opponents with eleven victories and three podium finishes in 16 races. In the Moto GP championship, Honda Gresini team impressed with Kato. He was second on the podium twice and three times the Japanese rider was fourth in his first season in Moto GP. He was a rising star.
In the season opener of the 2003 championship, on 6 April in Suzuka, Kato fell heavily during the third round. He went into a state of coma and he died 14 days later. The night of April 20.
