The Phillip Island weekend begins with a penalty for Valentino Rossi. All times achieved during the Phillip Island 2016 Free Practice 1 were cancelled.
Why?
Italian rider used too long a certain type of tire. According to the technical management, in collaboration with Michelin and race direction, the Super Soft rain front should be used for no more than 10 rounds, including incoming and outgoing laps.
The Doctor used the tire for more than ten laps. This violation will erase all the times achieved in FP1. So, we can tell that the Rossi weekend will begin with FP2.
Phillip Island 2016 Free Practice 1, the “virtual” Best is Cal Crutchlow
The bad weather cancels the Phillip Island 2016 Free Practice 2. The rain and cold weather influence the weekend of the 2016 Australia GP. It was not enough even to delay of 40 minutes the beginning of the session. After a few minutes, the race direction stopped everything. Tomorrow there will be an appointment in advance by one hour and the drivers will have available 60 minutes instead of 45. In the Phillip Island 2016 Free Practice 1, Cal Crutchlow was the fastest.
Rossi: “The conditions were extreme and unfortunately we couldn’t drive“
“The conditions today is really difficult. Unfortunately, we had bad weather. It was very cold and there was a lot of water.” said Rossi, after being relegated to the 20th place. “This morning I drove for 20 minutes under acceptable conditions. It wasn’t so bad. I was pretty strong. This afternoon the temperature has gone down and the amount of water was too much. The conditions were extreme and unfortunately we couldn’t drive. We couldn’t work on feeling with the bike. So, we have to keep the good feeling. The real problem is the cold. So we have to wait until tomorrow.”
Phillip Island 2016 Free Practice 1, Lorenzo is only 19th
“I exited the pit lane quite late this morning and I didn’t do many laps in the first session.” said the other Yamaha rider, the Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo, only 19th. “I was progressing gradually, but I stopped too soon. When I tried the second bike there was already more water on the track. So, I only had one more round. It was hard to find a good reference for understanding on which bike was better in these conditions.”
