The recommended route
If you want to discover the Verdon Gorge, we propose a beautiful motorcycle trip. It is long about 120 kilometers and starts from Rougon. We follow a good part of the Verdon river, and then we arrive at Durance river, a tributary of the Rhône. From Rougon, we take the D952 direction West-Northwest, touching, in a rich path winds, the highest part of the Parc du Verdon, then descend again towards Les Salles-sur-Verdon, where the river widens to form a first Lake.
The D957 descend towards Vérignon, before up towards, as D49, Bauduen, and then continues for some kilometers up to Saint-Laurent-du-Verdon, a place surrounded by nature and beauty of the Verdon Gorge. In this first part of the trip, we already covered 73 kilometers. From Saint-Laurent-du-Verdon, we take the D311 and travel the “South side” of the Verdon River. So, we can continue towards Esparron-de-Verdon, where the river becomes the Lac d’Esparron.
The last stretch of the route, about 76 kilometers, follows the narrowest part of the Verdon river, which becomes a big stream, with the Gorges always clear, but less impressive. From Esparron-de-Verdon, we pass to Gréoux-les-Bains, a pleasant spa town, and Peyrolles-en-Provence, the last stop before arriving in Saint-Paul-lès-Durance.
