The new Audi A8 will be the protagonist of the first Audi Summit scheduled in Barcelona. The German car will be unveiled next July 11th. So, the model provides hybrid power as a standard for the entire range.
New Audi A8: 2,000 guest waits for it
This fourth generation will be the main attraction of the Spanish event. 2,000 guests are expected to be in the 10,000-square-foot area of the most advanced German brand technology and its future mobility solutions. From Ingolstadt, they anticipated that with the new Audi A8 will debut a primary 48V and a secondary 12Volt electrical system. They will only be used for services.
BAS
The adopted system is mild-hybrid and is called Belt Alternator Starter (BAS). Its fulcrum is an electric motor/generator connected to the thermal engine that restarts it promptly in restarts. But it does not replace the starter. So, this continues to be present and performs its function at the first ignition. The electrical part of the car is powered by a lithium-ion battery. It is under the floor of the luggage compartment.
The new Audi A8 automatically switches to the pure electric mode for between 55 and 160 km/h
According to Ingolstadt engineers, this new technology allows fuel savings of up to 0.7 liters per 100 km. Thanks to the BAS, at constant gas, the new Audi A8 automatically switches to the pure electric mode for between 55 and 160 km/h. So, it resumes gearbox operation with the combustion unit at the first throttle pressure. The zero-emission mode can be maintained for up to 40 seconds.
The system may decide to restart the petrol engine for a quick restart
During the deceleration, the new Audi A8 turned off the main engine using Start and Stop already under 22 km/h of recharging the accumulators. BAS operation is linked to the information captured by the various onboard devices. So, with the car stopped in the traffic queue, the system may decide to restart the petrol engine for a quick restart, if the sensors capture that the front cars are resuming.
