Harley-Davidson FLHR Road King Classic – The Road King Classic is beautiful and well finished. There is plenty of chrome, but it has also a great attention to details. The only flaw is the lateral bags. Under the leather hide a less glamorous plastic construction.
Every element, even the most trivial, becomes a small masterpiece. The windshield has a classical form. A robust chrome structure supports a sheet of Lexan. Easily removable. Another retro touch of Road King is the beautiful tires with white band. As tradition, they have the name of the American brand. Symbols, logos and names are shown everywhere. They embellish the details, as for the brake calipers, or for the headlight, halogen or full Led. On the tank, there is a beautiful vintage H-D logo. The new Milwaukee Eight shows the sign on the air filter.
Harley-Davidson FLHR Road King Classic: Comfortable and Very relaxed riding position
When we sit on the Harley-Davidson FLHR Road King Classic, we face a wide and tall handlebar. It offers a comfortable and very relaxed riding position. While very nice details adorns the big tank. The cap is on the right side, but symmetrically on the left you will find the battery gauge, nestled in a mock second cap. The paint of our model is not a simple white, but the particular Crushed Ice Pearl, enriched by subtle and double rows crossing the bike front fender to the rear.

New Milwaukee Eight
The engine of Harley-Davidson FLHR Road King Classic is the new Milwaukee Eight. The engine enables a 10% increase in power and torque, accompanied by a major reduction of heat generated and consumption. 150 NM at 3,250 RPM, while the horses are 90. The displacement is 1,745. The new engine is also available in two other versions, Twin-Cooled with liquid-cooled head (107) or 114 (1,870 cc). Thousands of hours of study and simulation have been completed to optimize combustion and getting to an engine that consume less, pollute less and heats up less.
The control raises the limit to 175 Km/h, but the bike could arrive at 200. The Road King has a surprising stability on fast, while perhaps only tradition has dictated the decision not to introduce a system of traction control. Of course, for us it is a gap and the bike runs without any major problems. But we think that the help of electronics would be less useless compared to other bikes where we find it standard. It improves the gears, although the “stock” are still vigorous and shift to neutral with the bike still is not the simplest things in the world. At the end, we use it, when we understand that the Big Twin resumes to any speed so gentle and progressive.
The new Chassis
The new chassis had already made the Road King a bike much more stable. However, now the level reached is surprising. Get on a motorcycle of 371 kg and do the slalom as if it was a scooter, or push cornering at sustained speeds, without problems, it might have been unthinkable years ago. The weight is a small problem only when we must move from a standstill. Another valuable aid comes from its stand with a lock, which prevents forward motion once it is opened.
We love:
Aesthetics and fine finish, huge improvements from the new engine and suspension
We don’t love:
The bags
