Once again in the street, we saw one of Apple Project Titan prototypes. The project is being developed and could become a reality soon. The Cupertino’s giant is investing a lot of money in the project. The new video appeared on the Twitter profile of MacCallister Higgins, co-founder, and CEO of startup Voyage, a company that wants to bring self-driving vehicles around the world.
Going to need more than 140 characters to go over 🍎’s Project Titan. I call it “The Thing” pic.twitter.com/sLDJd7iYSa

MacCallister Higgins has come into contact with what we think is one of the testing vehicles of the excellent Apple Project Titan, a white Lexus RX450h. The car we see in the video features six LIDARs produced by Velodyne. Then, they are arranged in a different configuration that is much more compact and elegant than its last appearance.

The sensors are all placed in a white frame and are located on the roof of the building. As Higgins said, it is a new configuration since it makes it easier to replace and engage. It would seem to suggest the development of a system that Apple could place on the market as an aftermarket product for any vehicle. As many rumors have suggested in recent months, Apple seems to have abandoned entering the automotive sector. In fact, it wants to develop an autonomous driving system (in the software aspect).
Self-driving cars
Self-driving cars are an essential target for many companies, from car manufacturers to level 1 equipment suppliers to Google and Apple. Technology could reduce or eliminate over 1 million deaths from road accidents worldwide every year. Many self-driving cars, manned by a driver for human safety, are being tested on public roads. So, they are expected to enter regular service as robotaxi or private vehicles in 2020.
