On the first day of 2017 Misano GP, Andrea Dovizioso did not use the Aero fairing and landed behind Pramac-Ducati driver Danilo Petrucci. Nevertheless, it still promises advantages due to the standard cladding. Ducati driver Andrea Dovizioso missed the fastest time in Misano on Friday by only 0.063 seconds. His Ducati colleagues Danilo Petrucci and Maverick Viñales on the Yamaha were faster.
Andrea Dovizioso and Aero fairing
Unlike Lorenzo and Petrucci, Dovizioso did not use the Aero fairing on Friday. “With our Aero fairing, you can close the throttle before the turns later. So, they have more speed than I do. At Ducati, I think I’m one of the best drivers when it comes to using the standard fairing. This cladding brings us a few advantages that we want to use. On this track, the new fairing is well suited, but it’s always about finding a balance. Making a perfect comparison on the weekend is impossible. We did this during the test here, but the result was very similar. That’s why we decided to start here after the victory in Silverstone. But now we check the data of the other Ducati riders because three of them were very fast. Then we decide whether I will use the new disguise,” explained Dovizioso.
“We just have to adapt to the situation.”
“When it’s warm, the grip is always good. But since it was cooler this morning and less rubber on the track, it took longer for the tires to reach the right temperature. That’s normal under these conditions. That’s not why we were so quick. During the test, when it was hot, you could drive very fast in the out-lap. But this is nothing new for us”, Dovi said. “We just have to adapt to the situation.” Andrea Dovizioso said.
Does Dovizioso have a chance to win?
Do you have an opportunity to win? “It’s too early to talk about the race on Friday. We can do that on Saturday. We were able to confirm our good base today. But the Honda pilots and Viñales are also very competitive. Saturday will be important to see the real speed of the opponents. We’re better than last year, but not so much,” Dovizioso finished sixth in the race in 2016.
