Ferrari 308 GTS – George Barris, owner of Kustom Car, took a lot of courage. In 1978, he bought a new Ferrari 308 GTS and gutted it, throwing away nearly all the bodywork, interiors, and instrumentation. However, he did something unique. A cross between the famous Kitt of Knight Rider TV series and a Batmobile full of electronic tricks. And references are certainly not random. The two cars of the TV series (and many others) are all born from the Kustom Car, an American company specializing in the creation of cars for Hollywood and for fans of the craziest elaborations.
Ferrari 308 GTS, an amazing car
Now this amazing Ferrari, with just 7000 km and Barris signature, was put for sale by Classic Car Shows in St. Louis, Missouri, at the price of 200 thousand dollars. Many for purists (who hate cars, not originals), short for custom car enthusiasts. And because this “custom” has so much.
The result is of shock
It all started during a Ferrari’s meeting. George Barris arrived there with his 308 and he parked it with other Ferraris. But then he lost it. “They were all Red with Black Interior, all alike, cannot distinguish one from the other.” Then, brought the car in the garage, started the “massacre”. Many body gold and copper finishes, finished with artistic features hand-painted. While the two-tone was separated from the Tricolor green, white and red. The engine was developed with new carburetors, but within that amazes 308. The steering wheel and other details gold plated surround an electronic style Kitt, made only of the led lights. Burl panels mounted. The result is of shock.
So much technology
Barris also took so much technology. On the center console was fitted with a TV, a phone and what we can consider an onboard computer. All things in 1978, today as Museum.
